Richie Knobhorn and Wrecker each work in one of two railroad repair crews removing and replacing worn-out ties on a spur line in Junction City.
As the men on the repair crews work on the tie replacement they hatch a plan that might enrich themselves even though there is no agreement among the members of either crew.
